Lower Face Rejuvenation
Dermal fillers and muscle relaxants in the lower third of the face
Leonardo Da Vinci first proposed the rule of thirds when discussing ideal facial aesthetics. The ‘ideal’ human face is balanced between the 3 areas of the face. Beauty is achieved by balancing the face with dermal fillers and muscle relaxers. For a woman, the middle third is usually treated first.
It is important to understand the structures in the lower third of the face and the treatments that can rejuvenate this area.
The main areas we treat with dermal fillers to rejuvenate the lower third of the face are below.
As we age, the fat pads in our face fall creating lines on either side of the nose (Nasolabial folds), we also see the creation of jowls and creasing in the chin. Below the mouth on either side, we form ‘marrionette lines’ or puppet lines as some call them. The lips can particularly change with time. Lip enhancement should always be undetectable and aesthetically pleasing. It is not necessary to add a lot of volume to the lips in order to create beauty.
The patient below has had dermal fillers to rejuvenate the lower third of the face. Notice the marionette lines and jowls look smoother. The lips have been treated with 1 mL of dermal filler. The nasolabial folds were also treated with 1ml of dermal filler. These 3 treatments have brought balance and harmony to the lower third of the face.
The patient below has not had her lips treated. She has had her nasolabial folds treated and her marionette lines filled. Her jowls are less visible as the filler has straightened out the jawline.
The patient below has had her lips treated subtly to restore lost volume. The lips still look natural and have a soft feel. She has had her nasolabial folds (either side of the nose) treated and also her marionette lines. This patient also had a chin augmentation as her chin was somewhat receded.
