How to get rid of Wrinkles and Lines caused by Smoking.
Melbourne used to be a city of smokers. As recently as 10 years ago, it was rare to see people not smoking. From Chapel Street to Elwood to the CBD, a cloud of smoke hung over our lovely city. No longer. We have kicked that habit to the curb.
If you used to smoke and have finally quit, congratulations! This is a huge step and you should be very proud of yourself. Quitting is extremely difficult.
Ex smokers may find that they might look a little older than their non-smoking counterparts. Apart from excess exposure to the sun, smoking is the second largest contributors to premature ageing.
1. Smoking constricts your blood vessels, which depletes blood flow to your skin thus denying it of critical nutrients.
2. Cigarettes contain a whole host of chemicals that have been known to cause free-radical damage in the skin.
3. The heat from the end of the cigarette makes smokers squint and scrunch up their faces much more often than their non-smoking counterparts. This constant motion increases the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles known as smoker’s lines.
Have no fear. Whilst there is no magic wand that can instantly erase 30 years of smoking, there are treatments to alleviate some of the damage caused by smoking.
Dermal fillers– Dermal fillers can be used to restore lost volume to the face caused by the lost of elastin and collagen. Smoker’s lines around the mouth can also be softened and reduced with dermal fillers.
Anti-wrinkle Injections– Due to the damage smoking causes to the skin, many smokers will find that the lines and wrinkles on their faces are deeper than their non-smoking counterparts. Anti-wrinkle injections can help minimise the appearance of lines and wrinkles as well as prevent them from getting much deeper.
Active Skin Care– After years of smoking, your skin will need all of the nutrients that it can get. A good place to start is with active skin care. Using a peptide serum in conjunction with retinol will help boost your body’s production collagen and elastin. A niacinamide serum will help restore lost moisture to your skin. As always, wearing a good sunscreen is always encouraged.
